Pioneer a Cleaner Energy Future

The Sr Staff Engineer – Firmware handles the design, testing, and support of the embedded software in Heila’s distributed energy resources (DER) hardware products. As part of their role, they are responsible for expanding the applications and environments in which Heila control systems are used. They also collaborate closely with Heila’s Project, Product, and others within the Engineering Team to understand and account for the hardware capabilities, upsell opportunities, product roadmap, and feature development timelines.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving architectural improvement of Heila’s embedded Linux platform including embedded C level up to Linux distribution layer to enable container-based application Development.
  • Enforce best practices in areas of bootloader design, memory management, RTOS implementation, communication and hardware interface driver development (CAN, Serial, Modbus, RTU/TCP), over the air updates and Linux distribution customizations.
  • Contribute to requirements definition for hardware and software in the system based on firmware dependencies.
  • Develop and debug procedures/tools for production test automation and development validation.
  • Provide technical support and guidance for post-release production systems. This includes documentation preparation for release notes and manufacturing specifications.
  • Maintain the manufacturing flash and test procedures for PCBA and product validation.
  • Uses technical acumen to discuss application of Heila products in the context of customer’s use cases.
  • Stay current with the industry trends, making recommendations as needed to help the company excel.
  • Foster positive and effective business relationships at all levels
  • Train and mentor less experienced teammates.

Skills/Requirements

  • 9+ years of experience with embedded development
  • Bachelor’s or Masters (preferred) degree in EE, CE, CS or equivalent
  • Experience working in C/C++ and Java
  • Experience with ground-up firmware system design and architectural design.
  • Experience working with Linux embedded systems.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, etc.
  • Experience with ARM architectures and developing for heterogeneous architectures.

The salary range for this position is $122,750 – $156,850. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.  Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
