The Heila Technologies team, made up of MIT students and alumni, won the MIT Clean Energy Prize (CEP) competition in 2016 for creating the “brain” for microgrids, making the systems more efficient and easier to own and operate. This prize was awarded early in Heila’s development, as they were working with the Stone Edge Farm Microgrid Project to pilot the Heila controller.
