Heila Intern, Hardware Engineering

Heila Technologies is looking to hire a Hardware Engineering Intern to assist with the development of our control and optimization solution, and support a higher adoption of low-carbon, distributed energy resources (DERs).

As a Hardware Engineering Intern at Heila, you will assist with the design, testing and support of Heila DER control products. These devices interface with critical energy equipment such as solar panels, batteries, fuel cells, EV charging stations and more. Your contributions will expand the applications and environments in which Heila control systems are used. If you choose to join our team, you’ll be working in a fast-paced environment, solving challenging problems and interacting with state-of-the-art technology in the energy industry.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design, test and implement electronics and firmware for advanced control systems.
  • Board-level design including component selection, circuit simulation, schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Develop and debug procedures/scripts for production test automation.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including product specifications, detailed design reports, test protocols and technical procedures.

Skills/Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program majoring in EE, CE or equivalent.
    Graduation expected in 2024 or later  
  • Will have completed at least one full academic year by June of 2023
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis during the 10-12-week internship. 
  • Interest in broad circuit design projects including analog, digital, power supply or communication functions.
  • Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and power supplies.
  • Strong drive, organization and communication skills.
  • Interest in learning about DER equipment and applications – including solar arrays, batteries, generators, fuel cells, among others.

Additional Skills

  • Embedded firmware or Linux driver development experience, especially with ARM Architectures.
  • Familiarity with ECAD/EDA software, especially Altium Designer.
  • Experience testing and debugging new PCB products.
  • Experience with C/C++ or Python
  • Experience with wireless protocols such as WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi HaLow.
