Chapter Lead – Cloud is responsible for leading a small team of ICs designing, developing, testing, and supporting data solutions and the cloud infrastructure, services, & products within the Heila Solution. This role collaborates closely with other Engineering teams as well as Heila’s Product and Project teams to understand and account for the cloud capabilities, upsell opportunities, product roadmap, and feature development timelines. Specific Responsibilities
  • Collaborate on product scoping & roadmap decisions with ownership for successful delivery of committed work within the team’s area of accountability in the Heila Solution. 
  • Drive and own architectural decisions, and technical debt management within the team’s area of accountability in the Heila Solution. 
  • Drive and participate in team’s design, development, and V&V of cloud & data structure/pipeline related scope. 
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including product specifications, design decision records, test protocols, testing reports, technical procedures, manuals, and configuration & release notes. 
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and issue resolution for post-release production systems. 
  • Hire, mentor, manage, and support the technical & career development of the team. 
  • Based on customers' identified needs, effectively consider feedback to adapt cloud deliverables to market needs. 
  • Use technical acumen to discuss application of Heila products in the context of customer’s use cases. 
  • Stay current with industry and technology trends, making recommendations as needed to help the company excel. 
  • Foster positive and effective business relationships at all levels. 
  • Nurture & maintain a strong, collaborative culture within the team and all of Engineering. 
  • Accountable for security, quality, reliability, and safety of the team’s delivered work. 
  Skills/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in EE, CS, or equivalent technical discipline.  Master’s degree preferred. 
  • 5+ years of engineering experience as a member of a team, with 1-3+ years of experience managing 3-5 direct reports preferred. 
  • 3+ years of experience with project planning related to cloud products. Strong ability to work across multiple disciplines. 
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving and communication capabilities across teams with diverse backgrounds. 
  • Experience with AWS (preferred), Azure, GCP, or other cloud infrastructure providers. 
  • Experience with data warehouse and/or data lake infrastructure.
  • Experience working with highly complex edge-to-cloud data and control pipelines. 
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture patterns using message broker technologies such as MQTT, Kafka or RabbitMQ. 
  • Professional experience programming in C/C++, Java, or Python on UNIX environments. 
  • Experience in software development, software architecture, and application/data scalability patterns. 
  • Knowledge of web services, API, REST, and RPC. 
  • Database experience, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, and related data stores such as Postgres. 
  • Interest in learning about control and optimization systems used in DER projects. 
  • Interest in learning about DER equipment and applications – including solar arrays, batteries, generators, fuel cells, among other. 
  • Interest in learning about resilience and economic use cases in DER projects.

The Project Manager owns the delivery of projects for Heila’s clients, including managing relationships with project developers, installers, operators, and others. They manage a delivery team composed of automation engineers to complete projects on time within budget and scope. The Project Manager oversees all aspects of a project aligning with sales team to provide full turnkey services, including but not limited to, setting schedules, assigning responsibilities, managing subcontracts, monitoring status, reporting on progress, and preparing the necessary deliverables for commercial operation and financial close. Specific Responsibilities
  • In this role, you will manage all aspects of turnkey projects as well as subcontract projects for different microgrid projects from beginning to end, with direct responsibility for project execution of defined scope in a given time frame and with available resources.
  • Manage project personnel, subcontractors, project scope, budget, schedule, deliverables, and financial analysis.
  • Directly interact with Heila’s customers and partners, managing customer service, relationships, and contracts.
  • Directly manage Heila’s Automation Engineers to ensure quality control and project delivery on time and within budget, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Manage and update schedules to reflect current information, monitor critical path activities, and track outstanding items.
  • Manage contracts by understanding the scope and out scope activities as well as the commercial terms and conditions including penalty clauses, risk, liabilities, and or liquidated damages.
  • Work closely with the Sales, Finance, Product, and Engineering Teams to satisfy all requirements for commercial operation and financial close.
  • Manage the scalation of technical questions to the appropriate subject matter experts.
  • Evaluate technologies and equipment, providing recommendations as needed.
  • Create project reports and documentation needed for commercial operation and financial close.
  • Provide technical assistance, support, and collaboration.
  • Responsible for project cash-flow management: progress billing, collections support and monitoring, and resource management
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
  • Foster positive and effective business relationships at all levels and project phases.
  • Staff, train, and mentor others within the Project Team.
  Skills/Requirements  
  • A minimum of 7 years of project management work experience focusing on complex DER projects in an industrial/engineering environment, with substantial people management responsibilities.
  • Successfully completed turnkey DER projects from beginning to end.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Proven experience with OSHA safety standards, mechanical and electrical systems development, engineering, and project management regulations, practices, and codes.
  • Excellent knowledge of utility grid interconnection processes and rules.
  • Strong IT skills – Microsoft Office, Atlassian JIRA/Confluence (or equivalent professional project management tools), and AutoCAD.
  • Bachelors in EE, ME or CE.
  • PMP certified.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must possess a keen analytical mind, be strong on planning, detail, and accuracy, and have a deep understanding of project management expertise. Must possess substantial skills in written and oral communication with all levels of management and with outside contacts.
 Preferred Qualifications
  • Good understanding of control and optimization systems used in DER projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of DER equipment and applications – including solar arrays, batteries, generators, fuel cells, among others.
  • Knowledge and understanding of resilience and economic use cases in DER projects.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or project management.
